Photo Narrative 2





 
This week, we learned about types of taking photograph which I didn’t know much about these topics before. I am not a good at taking photographs and the reason why is that  I don’t know too much information about what’s rules of taking good photograph exactly. Looking at bathroom scene of Psycho(1960) and North by Northwest(1959), they gives information about how angles and camera shots are important while creating a movie. We analysed step by step every scene and we understand that camera angle made different kinds of emotions and meanings in movies. This lesson gives information about importance of camera angles. 

So, this week, we try to create narrative by using photos which is about what we decided to tell about any kinds of stories. This is more challenging for me and Sena because we choose a subject which was about claustrophobia. We are interested about the subject but both of us didn’t  have a claustrophobia so, we searched a lot before we tried to create a photo narrative. We tried to use different kinds of camera shots types. However, we didn’t know whether we used correctly or not, but we tried to use some rules what we learned in lesson. Because audio isn’t allowed to use, this is more challenging to convey the message to audiences. Music changes the rhythm of movies, it gives emotions, tensions so, every shots in the narrative has a great importance of giving a message/ emotions to spectators because in this assignment, we don’t have a music. Sena and I tried to select most powerful images to create a narrative in order to reach feeling of how claustrophobic person can feel if he face these kinds of situations. Taking photographs up side of his head/ face give more the meaning of his phobia overwhelms him.

In this week, we learned knowledge about lightening which is one of the most important aspects in the movie, video clip, photography etc. Light changes everything in shot, depends on angles, it can give emotional atmosphere or dark feeling or give any emotions. There are many types of light technique that gives have a chance to reach any of feeling in the video or photograph. In the lighting workshop, while we were creating the set, the most I like is that using red, green and blue colours in the photographs. I like creating silhouette and low key lighting. It was enjoyable class hours to spend our time because studio gives us to understand more about lighting compare to the classical powerpoint lecture.   Lighting is everything because in the movie or video clip, even if your framings, sounds are good, when your lighting is not matching with the idea of what you want to give message of this shot, your whole work could be in trash. Tabula Rosa

Tabula Rosa is directed by Hatice Memiş and written by Gülin Tokat in 2016. The movie is about one day, Sinan rescues a woman while she is walking in the street. A woman carries a bag full of money. However, she doesn’t remember her name and also the source of the money because of temporary memory loss. The unexpected love between them brings lots of difficulties. The story is mainly about Armenian lawyer Rosa who lost her memory as a result of a trauma. In that film, first I want to talk about the script. The movie of the story is powerful because the way Gülin Tokat tells the story is successful to reach the idea of “don’t judge people because of their different religions”. Rosa doesn’t remember where she comes from. She meets with Sinan. Sinan trust her even if she has a bag full of money. He believes that she doesn’t do anything about illegal. Alice in Wonderland - Adaptation

Alice in Wonderland is written by Lewis Carroll in 1865. The book is about a girl named Alice falling through a hole into a fantasy world and what she face with different creatures in that place. Even if Lewis Carroll created book for children also adults are interested in this tale. He didn’t know how his story become so popular for many years later. Now, his story have been the subject of adaptations and also they have been transformed into new forms of media. In the story, it has so much imaginative characters, they can talks, sings etc. so, this absurd nature of Wonderland also gives the producers and film making sectors to present their imagination in a unique ways. When I was a child, I watched cartoon version of this story and I enjoyed it because the story itself has broad imagination.  Walt Disney Pictures presented the movie by Tim Burton.
