Mise-en-scene


In this week, we covered a lecture about mise-en-scene, props, costumes, lightening. These are important and also necessary aspects to create a movie. These are made a movie look more great  . Set design, costumes give clues what movie is about. Every topic needs to have connection with subject/genre so audience understand by looking at image. 

In this week, we  also watched first episode of Legion, which was about a man with schizophrenia and also his extraordinary power. David hears weird sounds in his mind and when he hears these sounds, it is also connected with creature which is called devil with a yellow eyes. Addition to this, these weird sounds in his mind refer to there is a negative situation and that negative situation  usually creates another huge disaster. He control things with his mind and when he feels negatively and start to hear sounds, everything is going to explode everywhere. When he feels like that in the episode, it is also connected with sounds and colour. Especially we can see colour red in most of the part, and also we can understand that when we see the colour red, something bad can happen in the scene. Red is excessively used and also tension sound start when we see red colour. When all things come together, audiences feel uncomfortable with the scene. Additionally, when David first attempts to commit a suicide, we see the first time this devil, and everytime he hears sounds, we face with this devil. However, at the end of the episode, devil stays behind the David and we understand that part, connection between David and Devil is over. David passes through negative sides to positive sides. 



Additionally, I liked the way of conveying message in the episode. I don’t know whether the aim was this or not, I like the way of using camera in the kissing scene. When David kisses girl, frame of video is reversed. So, David and girls soul is changed that part. David become girl and girl become David. With using camera, they also tried to give the message by changing the camera angle.

Alice in Wonderland is written by Lewis Carroll in 1865. The book is about a girl named Alice falling through a hole into a fantasy world and what she face with different creatures in that place. Even if Lewis Carroll created book for children also adults are interested in this tale. He didn’t know how his story become so popular for many years later. Now, his story have been the subject of adaptations and also they have been transformed into new forms of media. In the story, it has so much imaginative characters, they can talks, sings etc. so, this absurd nature of Wonderland also gives the producers and film making sectors to present their imagination in a unique ways. When I was a child, I watched cartoon version of this story and I enjoyed it because the story itself has broad imagination.  Walt Disney Pictures presented the movie by Tim Burton. Tabula Rosa

Tabula Rosa is directed by Hatice Memiş and written by Gülin Tokat in 2016. The movie is about one day, Sinan rescues a woman while she is walking in the street. A woman carries a bag full of money. However, she doesn’t remember her name and also the source of the money because of temporary memory loss. The unexpected love between them brings lots of difficulties. The story is mainly about Armenian lawyer Rosa who lost her memory as a result of a trauma. In that film, first I want to talk about the script. The movie of the story is powerful because the way Gülin Tokat tells the story is successful to reach the idea of “don’t judge people because of their different religions”. Rosa doesn’t remember where she comes from. She meets with Sinan. Sinan trust her even if she has a bag full of money. He believes that she doesn’t do anything about illegal.
