Lovely Curves - Final

Our final project is about how body is shaped by society and actually how this has no importance. We used glasses, mirrors and water in order to represent our idea to people.

Our artist statement : "There is no single universal body image that people should fit in. The variety of body shapes show that there should be no general understanding of beauty. However, media and society form an ideal beauty  which has a connection with the thinness. This artwork contains different glasses that reflects different women body forms. People see themselves as inverted and distorted forms from the mirrors behind glasses. In that sense, whether people look at overweight form or thinner form of glasses, they see themselves in different reflections. This shows that form of glasses distort the perception of beautifulness in people’s mind. However, the same water in each glasses means that the appearances are not even important. In general, whatever body type you have, the true representation of beauty is hidden inside of ones personality. This artwork is inspired by Suzanne Saroff who uses everyday objects behind glasses filled with water. She changes the meaning of objects by distorting them."

Mostly, people like our idea in exhibition because it is a general problem. Ideal beauty has a connection with thinness. Most of the people encounter some sentences like " you should be careful about your weight", " eat less" etc. However, your appearance has no importance.
