Every time we watched film, most of the time we don’t consider sound in terms of how these sounds make it by people. In sci-fi films or action films, they are many different kinds of sounds which should be made by people by using different types of approach. It is called foley. People get in a sound studio and they made sounds by using different things. For example, many scene of people stab each other, these sound   usually made by using lettuces and knife. Every time in film people stab each other, a person who sound maker in studio, stab the lettuce and reach same sound what they want to approach. It should be synchronous . The   film called Berberian Sound Studio (2012) which is directed by Peter Strickland, we watched in COMD207 and I have first time watched these kinds of film.The way film was edited, the way they showed how to make sound is interesting for me. In this week, we covered the lecture about montage and also use of transitions in the movie. In order to put together videos side by side, montage is the most important step to create watchable movies for audience. As we watched the most terrible movie in the classroom, we also recognized importance of the montage in movie. For example, even if we shot whole car travel by camera, we cant use all the road scene at the same time. Audience get bored while they are watching the movie. The first important rule for filmmaker is that not bored people, make curiosity. This makes audience full concentration in movie. So, at that time, we use montage. Montage makes films dynamic. Morever, if selection of music matches with the movie tempo, also it makes more dynamic. Audiences also feel like they are in movie. In this week, we covered a lecture about mise-en-scene, props, costumes, lightening. These are important and also necessary aspects to create a movie. These are made a movie look more great   . Set design, costumes give clues what movie is about. Every topic needs to have connection with subject/genre so audience understand by looking at image.   In this week, we   also watched first episode of Legion, which was about a man with schizophrenia and also his extraordinary power. David hears weird sounds in his mind and when he hears these sounds, it is also connected with creature which is called devil with a yellow eyes. Addition to this, these weird sounds in his mind refer to there is a negative situation and that negative situation   usually creates another huge disaster. In this week, we learned knowledge about lightening which is one of the most important aspects in the movie, video clip, photography etc. Light changes everything in shot, depends on angles, it can give emotional atmosphere or dark feeling or give any emotions. There are many types of light technique that gives have a chance to reach any of feeling in the video or photograph. In the lighting workshop, while we were creating the set, the most I like is that using red, green and blue colours in the photographs. I like creating silhouette and low key lighting. Alice in Wonderland is written by Lewis Carroll in 1865. The book is about a girl named Alice falling through a hole into a fantasy world and what she face with different creatures in that place. Even if Lewis Carroll created book for children also adults are interested in this tale. He didn’t know how his story become so popular for many years later. Now, his story have been the subject of adaptations and also they have been transformed into new forms of media. In the story, it has so much imaginative characters, they can talks, sings etc. so, this absurd nature of Wonderland also gives the producers and film making sectors to present their imagination in a unique ways.   This week, we learned about types of taking photograph which I didn’t know much about these topics before. I am not a good at taking photographs and the reason why is that   I don’t know too much information about what’s rules of taking good photograph exactly. Looking at bathroom scene of Psycho(1960) and North by Northwest(1959), they gives information about how angles and camera shots are important while creating a movie. We analysed step by step every scene and we understand that camera angle made different kinds of emotions and meanings in movies. In our previous lesson, we watched a film that was created by using many photos and these photos made sequences/narration in the movie. It was different than the kind we were used to it. We had a chance to observe and understand every details in photos and in our mind, we tried to combine the previous photos and next photos in order to understand whole story. However, movie has movement in it. It always continues and sometimes people cannot realise many details while they are watching. By using photography in storytelling, the photos are going one by one and so, it is more good way to convey your ideas to audiences.
